I had originally set out to do a Roar, I’m 4 dinosaur themed party for my son’s 4th birthday until I got a custom request from one of my regulars to help her with a golf-theme party for her son. And then I was like – hold up, this is such a fun idea! My little guy loooooves playing mini-golf and it doesn’t get much more on point then yelling FORE! to celebrate a 4th Birthday!
We were going to create a putt putt course in the basement, but time got away from us so I started to think up what to do and then it hit me like a ton of Golf Balls…TOP GOLF! This hot new location just opened up in the next town over and I thought this would be super fun since the guest list consisted mostly of adults!
We opted for an early tee-time of 10 am, played for just about 2 hours while we enjoyed beverages and apps at Top Golf. Post-game we headed back to ‘The Clubhouse’ aka our home for lunch, cake and presents.
I kept the decorations simple with a golf-theme centerpiece, table runner, banner, and balloons! Let’s take a minute to talk about my newest party hack – balloon sticks & base. Not sure if you are aware, but there is a helium shortage and helium balloons are not as readily available as they used to be and the price of a balloon filled with helium has significantly gone up as well.
Enter…the balloon stand! A balloon stand will set you back $10 for a pack of two, each stand holds 7 balloons. You blow up the balloons with your own hot air or you can buy a balloon air pump to do the work for you. Simply tie off the end of the balloon and twist it into the cup to secure in place.
The latex balloons are pennies and the balloon stands are reusable party, after party, after party. If the savings alone isn’t appealing enough you’ll love that these air filled balloons stay nicely inflated for several days, so you can get your party prepping done a few days before the party…one less thing to worry about the day of!
I used a galvanized tin tray to contain the centerpiece and cut down a grass mat to fit to size. The flag stick is a balloon stick and cup turned upside down and fed through the grass. The tee is held in place by the cup piece of ballon stick. I purchased recycled golf balls in bulk and placed them in a white galvanized pail I had on hand to finish off the design.
Argyle, argyle, argyle. I do not think it gets more preppy and golf themed than argyle. We incorporated this colorful pattern into the design of the invitation, table runner, paper plates, and food signs. The clubhouse crest took center stage above the food table and on all of the paper plates.
All food was golf themed – My new cake stand was aTarget find and it did a nice job of displaying all of the ‘club’ sandwiches – For the adults I had Egg Salad on sour dough, Caprese on Ciabatta, and a Turkey Craisin Croissant (oh so good). I had a few PB&Js on hand for the kids. Also on the buffet were ‘Par’-Faits, Chip Shots, Wedges, Putt Putt Pasta Salad and a Water Hazard & Sweet ‘Tee’ at the 19th Hole.
I used another galvanized tray to hold the cake. To create this golf themed cake I make a chocolate sheet cake using my favorite recipe and saved a little of the batter to make a very thin 9″ circle cake. I left a small bit of white icing to the side and tinted the remaining white icing recipe with green food dye.
When the cake was cooked and cooled I cut it down to size, placed it in the tray and used a layer of icing to affix the thin circle cake on top to create the small hill. I then iced the entire cake with the green icing except for a small area that I blocked off with a small cup.
I placed about half a bag of shredded coconut in a bowl and added green dye mixing it until I got my desired green. I then topped the icing with the green coconut to get the look of grass.
I removed the cup and iced the small circle with the white icing I had set aside to create the hole. The finishing touches were a golf ball and a balloon stick with a flag on top with the number 4.
Thanks for swinging by! I hope you found some great golf party inspiration here! I hope to have a party pack posted shortly for this party suite – in the meantime if you’d like to order and I do not have it posted yet simply shoot me a message!
